HAGERTY & FBHVC ANNUAL DRIVE IT DAY
You can take a drive in your classic car and benefit organisations like
the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs (FBHVC) when Hagerty
hosts its fifth annual Drive It Day on Sunday 17th April 2011.
There is no charge for the event, but Hagerty is encouraging each participant
to make a donation which will support several charities. The Warwickshire and
Northamptonshire Air Ambulance and the Sywell Aviation Museum will benefit, as
will the FBHVC, whose mission is to uphold the freedom of all enthusiasts to use
and enjoy their historic vehicles.
Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs
The FBHVC represents the interest of classic automobile owners by:
- Monitoring – Keeping abreast of legislative developments
- Research – Providing the information necessary for classic
car owners to respond quickly and effectively to new developments
- Lobbying – Ensuring that MPs, MEPs and government agencies
are aware of the interests of classic vehicle owners
- Publicity – Keeping subscribers informed of any measures
that might result in the unfair treatment of classic car owners
The FBHVC is a member of the Federation Internationale Vehicules Anciens (FIVA),
an international organisation representing over 1,000,000 individuals worldwide.
FIVA funds a professional lobbyist in Brussels to monitor legislation that may
affect the historic vehicle movement in the European Union.
Route
The Drive It Day route, which is approximately 70 miles in length, includes all
road types. It will begin at the Silverstone Circuit and run in two directions,
with a stop planned at the Sywell Aerodrome and Aviation Museum in Northamptonshire.
The event will rendezvous at the Silverstone Racing Club clubhouse.
Plans are being made to drive on the Silverstone Circuit, but this portion of
the route cannot be guaranteed due to major work in preparation for the MotoGP
race and the 2010 British Grand Prix.
In order to better follow the route, each entrant will receive a “tulip” style
roadbook.
Hot soup rolls and soft drinks will be provided prior to the start, and drinks
and refreshments will be available for purchase afterward at the Silverstone
Racing Club clubhouse.
Eligibility
Cars produced before 1 January 1990 may be entered, subject to available space.
There is a limit of 150 cars.
Cost
Entry, which has been organised by Hagerty International Limited, is free.
However, the purpose of the event is to raise money for the Federation of
British Historic Vehicle Clubs, the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air
Ambulance and the Sywell Aviation Museum. Hagerty asks that each participant
makes a donation which will benefit one of the charities we are supporting
this year.
Start Point and Start Time
The start point will be Silverstone Racing Club, Silverstone Circuit, NN12 8TN.
Entrants should arrive between 10.45 and 12.15. Cars will be flagged off
