The VSCC Prescott Hillclimb

Last weekend, the Hagerty Classic Car Insurance team spent a very enjoyable weekend with our partners the Vintage Sports Car Club (VSCC) at their prestigious Prescott Hillclimb event.

In 1937, members of the Bugatti Owners’ Club (BOC) and the VSCC decided a permanent Hillclimb location was required. The BOC acquired Prescott House and Estate, near Cheltenham, for the purpose, and gave the VSCC the right to hold one completely independent event each year; they have done so ever since (with the exception of the war years).

Prescott now holds six events annually, including two rounds of the British Hillclimb Championship. This is held on the 1127-yard ‘long’ course (introduced in 1960), but the VSCC still use the original 880-yard ‘short’ course.

Highlights from the 2015 meeting include watching Tony Lees’s 1930 12-litre Vauxhall Viper Special carry out a near-perfect power-slide around Orchard corner on each of his runs on Friday, whilst generating the most spectacular noise as it comes off the power.

Our Saturday highlights were the 1905 Darracq 25-litre 200HP and James Baxter’s record setting ERA R4A.

The Hagerty Classic Car Insurance stand was perfectly located in the Orchard- the display of cars here both days will beat most classic car events with a vast array of cars both classic and vintage on show.

Hagerty Classic Car Insurance are very proud to support the VSCC and are delighted to be able to offer a wide range of insurance services for vintage and veteran vehicles.
